Description

While kindling your patience for the next release of Lamb of God or Himsa, maybe you should give The Red Death’s ‘Godmakers’ a listen first. I recommend this album if you specifically like the here-comes-the-reaper tunes of death metal but not the beastly vocals (and gore words) that usually come with it, or in a simpler scope, if you are a fan of the likes of the two abovementioned bands. ‘Godmakers’, the fourth release of US death-metalcore project The Red Death, is not the immediately hyped-up kind of album, but not the one that uses mundane instrumentals as an intro either. All tracks are made gloomy and grim with the tortuous double-bass, low single-layered guitars, thin sensuous growls with some spews and all that, but somewhere in the middle of the album, there’s time to wipe off all the dripping sweat with the seemingly ethnic yet ruthlessly raw drum-work of the title track which you may treat as an interlude. Though the headless carcass in the cover art seems to have nothing to do with the album title, I think it justly complements the violence of the music, especially as warned by the brief glaring cymbals at the opening song ‘Eternal Now’. The cover is inviting, it's nothing too obscene or blasphemous but it has a depth in it that describes the brute of the songs in it – inviting enough for you to get a copy of it to enjoy the good music Track listing: 1. Eternal Now 2. Godless 3. Sleep Of Reason 4. Regression 5. Godmakers 6. Static Divide 7. Transapient Beast 8. We Were Ghosts 9. Passengers
