Reusmarkt was formed in 1997 in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. They released the Fortress Ungh demo in 1998 but split up within a year later. After the split guitarist Hyozt formed a new project Xul which recorded only one album. Later Hyozt moved to the city of Uzhgorod and there he reincarnated Reusmarkt in 2006. Hyozt recorded all instruments for the 2006 debut album Echo by himself and Radogor from Nagual did vocals. This debut demo features some raw symphonic pagan black metal where they are in many cases very similar to Nokturnal Mortum. As with most symphonic black metal, these keyboards are epic and beautiful. These keys are accompanied by sounds of nature, which is a commonality in this brand of Ukrainian black metal. The vocalist sounds a bit like Eisenslav of Kroda. He uses typical, harsh black metal screams that are expected to be heard in this type of music. The lyrics are not in English so I have no idea what he’s saying, but that doesn’t effect the atmosphere at all. Although it has its flaws and does sound very similar to Nokturnal Mortum and a few of the other bands coming out of Ukraine, this overall is a great debut demo from Reusmarkt. For fans of this breed of Ukrainian symphonic black metal its highly recommended.
