Sweden isn’t reknowned for its Texan boogie n supercharged blues, but Roadhouse Diet might just change your mind about that with this album full of liquored-up ZZ Top-worshipping songs of desert highway abuse. If this really is the soundtrack to their lives it shows they spend a lot of time on the road, doing it tough, and drinking their way through their problems. Opening with the harmonica-dripping Greasy Spoon, Jonas Kjellgren’s (Scar Syymmetry) vocals sounding like a growling Billy Gibbons, while the band (drummer Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy/Pain), Johan Ahlberg on guitar and Kenneth Seil playing bass – Kjellgren also plays guitar) play as one. Lyrically Roadhouse Diet stay true to their ouvre: Original Soundtrack is like a stream-of-consciousness road trip through the Mojave desert. (I Can’t) Stay Sober, Big Truck Shuffle, Roadbound, Long Way To Go, Ain’t Got The Time are all great songs punctuated by more of Will Wilde’s bluesy harmonica. Musically ZZ Top is the obvious reference point, and their desert boogie is so dry you’ll need a few beers while you listen, to – y’know – rehydrate.
