Description
If you have ever thought that your life was missing some crazily themed industrial rock ‘n roll about monsters, s** and strange close encounters of every kind then you probably haven’t heard of Rob Zombie and for that you should be thoroughly ashamed, once you have felt ashamed for a bit go out and start building your Rob Zombie collection (don’t forget the White Zombie stuff) and be assured that you will never feel shame ever again! For those of you merely returning for another fix you can be assured that for the most part you won’t be disappointed. At its core Rob Zombie is pure rock ‘n roll, simple, to the point and exhilaratingly fun. The casing for this rock ‘n roll core is a veritable Frankenstein’s monster of parts that fit together to create one hell of a beast of an album, that shifts and grows before your very ears becoming something greater than its parts. Album opener ‘The Last of the Demons Defeated’ is an insistent beast which does just enough to welcome the Zombie back but it is the Sabbath like ‘Satanic Cyanide! The Killer Rocks on’ which really makes you pleased to have bought this album, from its sampled intro with a bassline that hints at Buffy to its big doom like riffs and gentle picked sections, it really is a joy to listen to. ‘The Life and Times of a Teenage Rock God’ and ‘Well Everybody’s F***ing in a U.F.O.’ are irresistible tracks, both fun and absolutely ludicrously loony, especially the latter which has some brilliant vocal lines underpinned by suitably insane sounds, this is followed by the instrumental ‘A Hearse that Overturns with the Coffin Bursting Open’ which is subdued and ever so gently creepy, after this little break ‘The Hideous Exhibitions of a Dedicated Gore W**re’ kicks the party back into gear. ‘Medication for the Melancholy’ is a speedy romp with some nice samples while ‘In the Age of the Consecrated Vampire We all get High’ has some nice heavy guitars that give it an almost, but not quite, nu-metal feel. ‘Super-Doom-Hex-Gloom Part One’ is another instrumental, which also has a nice creepy atmosphere about it. ‘In the Bone Pile’ feels like some malfunctioning killer robot lurching from side to side as it tries to hit you with its lasers and ‘Get Your Boots on! That’s the End of Rock ‘N Roll’ is a more dance floor focused attack. Closing track ‘Wurdalak’ is a strange beast and I am in two minds about it, its nicely atmospheric and a change of pace from the rest of the album but there is a nagging feeling that it is there to lengthen a rather short album, maybe I’m just being cynical.
