1984 to 1986 was some busy years for the guys in The Rods. In 1984 Canedy and Bordonaro played on Jack Starr’s album Out Of The Darkness with Rhett Forrester of Riot and Gary Driscoll of Rainbow. Then in 1984 The Rods made their fourth studio album Let Them Eat Metal. Canedy and Bordonaro was also involved in the Thrasher project that released the Burning At The Speed Of Light album in 1985. It was with Thrasher that they found the rather unknown vocalist Rick Caudle. With Caudle and David Rock Feinsten they recorded material for what they called The Hollywood Project. This album wasnt as heavy as The Rods. Here the band let the melody do the talking. I wouldnt go as far as calling this an AOR album but its not sounding like The Rods. The album sales were poor and the Rods members decided to go back to their roots. Rick Caudle was out again and never to be heard of again, which is a shame as he was more than a decent singer. Bass player Garry Bordonaro left to join Savoy Brown. Canedy and Feinstein went back to The Rods again. However at this time if seems like Feinstein was quite comfortable with just being a guitarist and not vocalist so they brought in Schmoulik Avigal from the Dutch band Picture and the band recorded their heaviest album so far with Heavier Than Thou, released in 1986. Unfortunately that would be the last album before the reunion in 2008. So with Hollywood you can hear some beautiful but still energetic softer songs like Love Is Pain, Tokyo Rose, Heart Of The Night and Dont Take It So Hard as well as a cover version of the Mountain track Mississippi Queen.
