Description
2012 album from the reborn German pirate metal band. Captain Rock n Rolf has written 10 new tracks for Shadowmaker, among them are the mid-tempo opener 'Piece Of The Action', the up-tempo number 'Shadowmaker' (‘roughly the same pace as 'Angel Of Mercy') and the monumental eight minute track 'Dracula', based on Bram Stoker's novel and the Christopher Lee movies. ‘To me, Shadowmaker is a very special album because there was no pressure, time wise or otherwise. I feel it's clearly audible that this relaxed attitude helped me to write one of the strongest Running Wild recordings of all time’. Rolf's fondness for pirate songs reveals itself here as 2 of the 10 cuts are dedicated to the ‘songs of the sea’ but overall, this is a typical Running Wild album stylistically and lyrically speaking. However, 7 years of shore leave have seemingly inspired the Master and Commander, Rock N Rolf, as the tracks on ‘Shadowmaker’ sound refreshed, inspired and well, it also sounds like Kasparek just wanted to lay down some driving metal tunes that met his own high standards…he succeeds. ‘Shadowmaker’ is definitely better than ‘Rogues En Vogue’ and in keeping with albums like ‘Victory’ and ‘Brotherhood’.
