Description

2016 picture disc

A rare live performance by Rush that was recorded at Jimi Hendrix Electric Ladyland Studios in New York City in December of 1974 as the band prepared for their first US tour. The band invited an audience for eight to twelve people in the small studio. Remember then that Geddy is also only talking to that many people, so between blistering renditions of tunes he speaks very casual. It gives it a totally bizarre feel, after Rush belts out tunes you except to hear thousands cheer as Geddy (usually hyper as hell) says ?Thank You!!!? instead he makes a VERY quiet, almost shy, ?hi? and they receive a golf clap. I actually like it; it gives it a sort of comforting feel. This is also one of the earliest recordings made with Neal Peart on drums, after replacing original drummer John Rutsy a few months prior to this recording. This album includes material from their first album and from the then soon to be released Fly By Night. The Fly By Night material is also very interesting because it features early versions with some alternate lyrics, most notably, Best I Can. Also, in rare Rush form, some of the music is structured differently including the guitar solo coming out of the vocal bridge and the ending of the title track and guitarist Alex Lifesons guitar solo in Working Man. There is also a cool jam part of the yet-to-be-released By Tor And The Snow Dog. A must have for any Rush fan
