Satarial have been one of the most talked about acts in the Russian metal scene for more than twenty years, including their alleged foundation in 1989 as Ad Maiorum Satan Glorium. Their goald with A.M.S.G was to create music simillar to that of Bathory, Hellhammer and Venom. They managed to get a few underground gigs but were discovered by the government who banned both their name and their music. The band returned in 1993 with their debut album and under their new name Satarial. The band have continued to be controversial and there always talks about their live performances where the band is joined by a theatre troupe with medieval weapons and armour, naked women and lots of fake blood. The band still faces attemps to block the sale, promotion and performances but carries on. Their 2016 album, Blessed Brigit, is centred around Celtic paganism and mysticism. Combining music and natural sounds, it aims to elevate human consciousness to alternative thought forms. The lyrics are based on mystical formulas and magical spells. It’s multilingual, embracing black metal, folk and industrial, with a strong emphasis on medieval and classical music. It was recorded using mediaeval instruments, in combination with standard metal music recording tools. The album was recorded live, in as natural an atmosphere as possible, to capture the feeling and expression of extreme metal. Overall this is a mind opening, spiritual journey, through the possibilities of arcane metal, when taken to extreme edges, incorporating opposing influences and elements and releasing all preconceptions and expectations. This is real, profound and sustainable, and it’s truly authentic and stands out as one of a kind – a genuine rare breed.
