Description

This US power metal quartet, originally titled Maquis De Sade, was formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1981. They were signed on the strength of a track included on the Metal Massacre series of compilations and a self-financed EP, The Dominatress, which the band had released in 1983. Master Of Disguise, their full debut was released in 1985 and it was followed by the 1986 album After The Fall From Grace. The band toured Europe but they continual line-up shuffles took its tool and the band disappeared in late 1988. What happened was that the band relocated to New York and started recording demos for their third album. The band were offered a deal with MCA records and shifted to a more hardrock oriented sound. The band worked on material for several years but the whole experience ended up with vocalist Christian Logue walking into the MCA records office were he tored apart the contract. A 4-track promo demo tape was released in 1991. This album features these 4 tracks as well as 6 more tracks that were demoed during the New York years 1988 to 1991. Chris Logue suits this kind of music better than the speed metal the band did before but that doesnt really matter. Because even if this is a good hardrock album its still a huge step down from the bands early years. It is totally different than anything Savage Grace did before. Its melodic, catchy, and got all those typical lyrics about girls and drinking. So in terms of overall completeness and technical capabilities, they were obviously peaking on their debut record and then went downwards from there. If you like hardrock then its worth a listen because the band were decent at it but if youre not familiar with the band and want to check out what Savage Grace really were capable of, were they show their might and strength instead of just chuggin along and singing the most generic shit ever, go and listen to Master Of Disguise and After The Fall From Grace. Savage Grace fans still need this one as its a big part of the bands history.
