Description
Official European PAL version
After Power And The Glory (1983) and Crusader (1984) the band felt disappointed with their label Carrere Records as they weren’t able to expand Saxon’s popularity, even as fellow N.W.O.B.H.M. survivors Iron Maiden and Def Leppard convincingly conquered the States at the same time. Drastic action was required, so Saxon signed a new deal with the all-powerful EMI and stepped up their game for 1985’s Innocence Is No Excuse, which arguably boasted the group’s strongest, most versatile song set in years, but not quite strong enough to break the band big, while simultaneously upsetting some die-hard fans with its slick production values (not to mention the band’s visual makeover, including a fancy new wardrobe, poofy perms, and lots of peroxide). This live video captures the band live on the Innocence Is No Excuse Tour recorded live in Mexico as well as two promo videos. The live material here is just under one hour and the band is in fine form. Its obvious not 100% authentic British Heavy Metal Saxon because the band are trying to gain new markets with bigger stage decor, more pyrotechnics, a slicker production and a more commercial set list. However behind it all its still the same Saxon that always enjoying being on stage and they show it. You see Graham Oliver having fun like Paul Quinn with his rotating guitar. Steve Dawson jumping while hammering his bass, and Biff sings with all his heart and soul. No matter what period in time, Saxon live is always sincere and effective.
