24 years of silence were more than enough. It was way back in 1999 when Scheitan ‘s third and final album Nemesis appeared. And not only they were absent from the music scene, but they made sure on their return to adopt a completely new musical style, nuggets of which they sporadically made their appearance in the past. After all, what’s more beautiful for an artist than to progress and experiment on new paths? Scheitan started out in the black metal days and have now evolved into a gothic rock band. Founder Pierre Törnkvist thanked his old friend Oscar, who sadly is not among us anymore, but who introduced him to goth stuff like The Sisters of Mercy and Fields of The Nephilim many years ago. Pierre also said that he had alot of darkness that needed to get out of his system so writing and recording a goth record was a sort of self-therapy. Jump forward to 2025 and Pierre has released a second album from the rebirth Scheitan, Wine For A Tormented Soul. Musically, Scheitan remain faithful to the Gothic Rock path they paved with Songs For The Gothic People. The compositions here continue to battle one another for dominance, each track vying to be the one that leaves the deepest mark. The production is once again crystalline and forceful, but this time, it’s Pierre Törnkvist’s vocals that show remarkable evolution. Every Little Thing is steeped in emotional gravity, and it closes with a child’s voice that elevates the entire piece to something almost otherworldly in its beauty. As for Döden Är Helt Underbar, the vocals transcend. Pierre sings as if bidding farewell to the world, as if standing before a firing squad, leaving behind one last lament to echo into the void. A dirge, fragile and devastating. And this is no exaggeration: songs like these are rare. When they do appear, they don’t just resonate, they haunt. Once again this is an album that gothic rock lovers need to explore
