Second Skin was formed in 1981 in Veendam, Groningen, Holland by drummer Luuk Visscher. Soon guitarist Marinus Elzinga, vocalist Harry Kwant and bassist Freddie Espeldoorn joined Second Skin. But soon, Freddie leaves the band and is replaced by Hans Steneker. To make the story even more confusing: Hans also leaves the band, and is replaced by Fred Jacquet. The band records its first release, a 6 track mini album simply named “First Life”. Two of the tracks from the mini album also appear on the legendary Holland Heavy Metal pt. 2 compilation album. In 1983, Marinus Elzinga announces he’ll quit the band. Second Skin starts the search for a new good guitarist and songwriter. They find one in the person of Erwin Jawa, who came from Herman Brood’s band (A famous Dutch artist / musician / junkie). Second Skin plays some concerts, mainly in Holland and Germany and opened up a lot of times for Vandenberg. They also appeared in the legendary Countdown Café (a live program where bands played and were broadcast on the radio). They did they last show at the Sodom Rock Festival in Winschoten on the 29th of December 1984 and decided to quit soon after. Second Skin played some really rocking hard rock and guitarist Marinus Elzinga reunited the band for some reunion shows in Holland in 1994. Most members went on to play in other rock and blues bands and Harry Kwant became a painter. Both Kwant and Visscher past away in 2006. This very rare mini album was recorded at the K & M Studios in Holland in eight hours
