Shank Rock is a Slovenian hard rock band from in the town of Velenje in 1982. First the band went under the name of Sankrock or Sank Rock with their first album Pridite Na Zur hitting the record shelves in 1987. The band would become one of the most popular Slovenian rock bands of all time even through they would go through a turbulent history. In 1995 it looked like the band would reach a much broader audience when they released the album, Crime Time. This was the first and so far the only album that also would be released on a label outside of Slovenia. The German based label Long Island Records released Crime Time for the European market in 1995. The band changed their name to Shank Rock for this attempt to break into a new market (maybe the artwork with a gun hinted to something else then what the band actually were playing). This is an album full of great catchy hardrock songs with some nice guitarplaying. However the album didnt do that well as the label had hoped and their follow up album was back on a Slovenian label. After that album the band decided to go back to their original name and concentrate on the Slovenian market where they had their biggest and most loyal fan base. The band are still around and have as I said become one of their countries biggest rock bands. Fans of melodic hard rock that are interested to hear what Slovenia has to offer should check this out.
