Shturm was formed in Krasnodar in Russia back in 2003 and as soon as they had found a suitable drummer the band started to record their debut demo, Shape Of Chaos, that was released the same year. The band started out as a rather raw and dirty black metal act but by the time the band released their second album, Kalahia, in 2009 they had evolved into a technical death metal act that imbibed the atmosphere of ethnic music, the heritage of Maya and the nations of Oceania. Thanks to the ethnic parts you cant help to think of Nile with their Middle Eastern and oriental fascination including chanting vocals, soaring lead guitars, bludgeoning mid-paced sections and heroically epic keyboards. The only real difference here is the difference in cultures that the music is taking its influences from. Shturm has done an album about Tibetan Buddhism and there actually is some extraordinary songwriting behind this album to make it all work. So if you like Nile you just have to check out this album. Its an impressive piece of work
