Skeletonwitch have done it again. The critically acclaimed metal band have carved a niche of unique styles into a genre desperately in search of a unit that fits such a caliber. The Apothic Gloom EP hits hard, and serenades with masterfully done harmonies. Blackened thrash, blackened doom, blackened death, all are labels that one could attempt to pitch toward Skeletonwitch, but at the end of the day their standard is simply metal. The Ohio based group is overwhelmingly brutal, and a shining (or gloomy) example of just how cool metal can be when it is done passionately. Their new four track EP delivers. New vocalist Adam Clemans fits right into the picture. His vocals are powerful and especially fulfilling on the track “Black Waters.” Expect the cut throat blackened thrash assault to continue for a long time to come.
