Two amazing Slayer shows on one dvd. In digipak cover
Rock Am Ring was originally planned as a one-time festival celebrating the inauguration of a newer, shorter version of the track in 1985, but due to its commercial success (with 75,000 audience members), it was decided to make the concert an annual event. However, after a dip in attendance for the 1988 event, the festival was put on hiatus for two years. In 1991, the festival returned with a new concept: as well as featuring well-known artists, event organizers present lesser known up-and-coming bands to the public. The 2005 festival took place between the 3rd and 5th of June and bands that played were for example R.E.M, HIM, Green Day, Marilyn Manson, The Hives, Velvet Revolver, Slipknot, Motley Crue, Within Temptation, Iron Maiden and Slayer. Maiden were headlining on the 4th of June and 70 000 people showed up. Prior to the show Slayer had warmed up the crowd and Slayer were out for a European Festival tour that summer of 2005. To fill up the dvd we get a concert from the bands performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2002. The two shows are recorded decades after the band launched in 1981 and the band is still going strong with their aggression undiminished. These concert finds the band in full force. Slayer fans, and fans of metal in general, will get all they bargained for and more in this relentless set of deeply sinister imagery, pulse pounding beats, shredded guitars, and intense musicianship. Concert staples like “Chemical Warfare” and hits and favorites, some of them with controversial histories, like “Raining Blood,” “Hell Awaits,” “Seasons In The Abyss,” “South Of Heaven” and “Angel Of Death” remind us of why Slayer is often credited with influencing everything from thrash to punk to death metal.
