Smisk (english: Spank) was a rock band from Salstsjöbaden, Nacka, Stockholm, that released one single in 1979 on the Wave label and later disbanded. The band was formed in 1977 with Fredrik Vogel, 20, vocals and guitar / Per Ingels, 20, drums / Lars Kronlund, 17 bass / Joachim Stokstad, 20, piano and Mats Burman, 19, guitar. The band managed to get some gigs throughout the Stockholm area and released this one and only single that received some airplay on public radio but still the band broke up. Fred Vogel went to New York were he played with Fantastic Life and The K-Club in the early 80s. Vogel would then return to Stockholm in the mid 80s and play in bands like Ta-Da and Russians Pump Most Oil before moving to Copenhagen where he continued to play in pop groups and also working as a producer for games and television where he have done several compositions for Danish television. Old time Smisk friend Mats Burman have been doing guest appearance on guitar on several of Vogels solo albums. The press release sheet for the 1979 Smisk single read that this was a band that couldn’t be compared directly to any other band’s music because the music they did included everything from jazz, pop n roll, reggae, rock and new wave. Smisk wanted to play and span a wide musical registry. The tracks have good pop harmonies and the lyrics are written with humour and irony but still with a lot of hidden seriousness. This was the second single to be released on Tyfon Grammfon newly created side label Wave Music and it was produced by Quorthon’s (of Bathory fame) father Börje Forsberg. The A-side “Ann” is a melodious, swinging song with a rather unassuming text about the hard love of Ann. The B-side “Begagnade Fraser” is a disco-inspired thing, the only one in the group’s repertoire, yet it still does not sound like a regular disco song. Per Ingels would also have a stint with the Stockholm based act Zeta while Mats Burman would show up as a guest musician on many recordings by Swedish artists such as Di Leva, Magnus Lindberg, Zzzang Tumb, Ida n Eric and so on.
