Description

Snowstorm was founded in Gothenburg in the winter of 1976 when four friends highly influenced by Thin Lizzys Jailbreak bought some new Marshall amplifiers. The guitarists Peter Nordholm and Lars Dille Diedricson did their best to copy the sound of the Lizzy axemens Gorham and Robertsson. Dille were chosen to sing and the band started to write hardrock tracks in English. They took every possible gig they could and soon had a local following. They recorded their first demo and Ola Hakansson at Sonet Records liked what he heard so two tracks Fuzzy and Hising Island were released as a single and the band also appeared on a compilation album called Swedish Tracks 79. The band also appeared on Swedish TV and Radio and the band soon changed label to EMI and the hardrock influences were toned down and the band started to write material in Swedish instead. The self titled album was released in January 1980 but the band had a hard time to agree on what to do next so the band split with the promise that none of the members continued under the name Snowstorm . Dille Diedricson and Peter Nordholm joined forces with Imre Daun (Alien/White Wolf and Gypsy Rose) and Henrik Thomsen and played under the name of Snostorm (Swedish name for Snowstorm) while Micael Serenban and Torben Ferm started an act called Rosen together with Ralph Peeker. During this time the label boss Bert Karlsson at Mariann records bought the rights to the album and released in on his label and released the track Sommarnatt on single. With the right connections and promotion the single became one of the most sold singles in Sweden that year and it sold more than 30 000 copies. The Snowstorm version were to guitar driven to be a radio success so the much softer act Wizex made a cover version of it and it stayed on the Swedish charts on Svensktoppen between the 7th of December 1980 until the 1st of Februari 1981. Suddenly everyone was asking for the act Snowstorm and both Rosen and Snostorm were touring claiming to be the only Snowstorm. It would be Micael and Torben that would break their promise to their former band members and abandoned the name Rosen for the much more in demand name of Snowstorm and with a fourth member Denny Olsen on guitar the band started to work on the follow up album Nattlivstyranner. Snostorm would also record an album but in a few years time the original band members would re-unite and record the album Rocking Again that were released in 1984. The four Snostorm members would later join forces with keyboard player Dan Helgesen and found the hard rock act Don Patrol.
