Brooklyn, NY quartet So Hideous – formed in 2008 with the intention to make soundtracks for films that have yet to exist – combine intense, blackened hardcore with orchestral elements to create a unique blend of music that has been called a raging force of post-black metal; frothing with shoegaze and oozing with tortured melancholy. The group produces throat searing chamber music with an orchestra of guitars, bass, drum and boss pedals while fusing elements of ambient, post rock, hardcore, black metal and neo-classical to craft a wholly unique, intense experience. To help achieve an immense and ornate sound the collective augments their studio recordings with the expanded instrumentation of strings, pianos and vocalists. Last Poem/First Light was recorded at The Wild Arctic Studios in Portsmouth, N.H. with Dean Baltulonis (Lucero, Modern Life is War) while being mastered by Scott Hull (Bob Dylan, Garbage) at MasterDisk. The album, which the band has stated takes influence from 20th Century classical composers Phillip Glass and Arvo Part, also features support from the New York-based choral and instrumental ensemble The First Light Orchestra.
