Description
Rare original Spanish pressing with lyric insert Sobredosis (meaning Overdose in English) story dates back to 1980, when the band formed as a trio under the name of Motor. The three musicians were Manuel Manrique on guitar, Jose De Benito on bass (would later switch to guitar) and Luis Garcia on drums. In 1983 the band (now under the name of Sobredosis) gets the chance to record two songs for a compilation album called ‘Unidos Por El Rock’. The two tracks on this album is enough to secure the band a record deal and they are also taken under the management of Javier Galvez, one of the most renowned manager in Spain at that time. A few line up changes has occurred but the trio from the Motor years are still intact. They debut album ‘Caliente Como Un Volcan’, produced by Obus vocalist Fortu Sanchez, is released in 1984. The music industry is booming in Spain at the time and thousands of metalheads makes this album a big seller in their homecountry, despite the poor production. The band gets the chance to tour a lot but the album also splits the band into two camps. Half of the band wants their next album to be produced by Fortu again while the other half cant understand why they would return after hearing the outcome of the first album. The band record their follow up album ‘Sangre Joven’ at the Mediterraneo Studios in Ibiza between November 1984 and February of 1985. The album is once again produced by Fortu Sanchez but this time with the help from his Obus bandmate Francisco Laguna. This album was also engineered and supervised by Dennis Herman, who has worked with Judas Priest to name a few. The end result is a more complete album with a sound that isn’t remarkable but still a lot better than their record debut. ‘Sangre Jove’ (Young Blood) features many tracks that would become metal anthems in Spain. The album also features a cover version of Ufo’s ‘Doctor Doctor’ and the backing vocals are laid down by Baron Red and Obus. During the recording of the album however vocalist Santiago ‘Sasa’ Alonso starts to suffer from throat problems. This gets worse during the coming live gigs and he feel forced to leave the band in the summer of 1985. The band gets a new vocalist but then guitarist Jose De Benito has to leave for military service and by the end of the year even bassplayer Salvador Narvaez leaves to join King Kong. The band continues with a new line up but at the end of 1986 the band decides to drop everything that has anything to do with Sobredosis. 20 years later, in the summer of 2006, the band reunites with Sasa on vocals to play a show at the Copernicus in Madrid. The band does a few gigs during the coming years but the band members comes and goes as they have a hard time to combine the band with their family lives. A third album, ‘Angel Negro’, finally arrives in April of 2012 with Santiago Sasa Alonso on vocals and Salvador Narvaez on bass. Track listing: 1. Dinosaurio 2. Corriendo Salvajemente 3.
