Empires Of Ash is the debut album from this international band with members from New Zealand, Sweden and Italy. And what an impressive debut album it is. Sojourner have found an excellent way to create atmospheric black metal with significant folk contributions. Truly epic stuff. The atmosphere is majestic, and there is no shortage of beautiful melodies. The theme behind the songwriting may not be entirely orignal, but the way Sojourner produce this music stands out, making it worthy enough to be mentioned alongside Saor, Caladan Brood and they are definitely paying tribute to the gods of the genre; Summoning.
