Back in 1986, Candlemass’s Epicus Doomicus Metallicus pretty much defined the epic doom metal canvas, and having formed two years later in the very same town, Sorcerer know it all too well. They had the all the right ingredients – a classic heavy metal background, tales of dark fantasy and a solid frontman, yet somehow failed to get a record deal with their first two demos. In 1995, three years after the band had split up, John Perez of Solitude Aeturnus released both demos on compact disc through his label Brainticket Records. Then during the years that followed the band started to become cult in the doom metal circles and it got that far that the band reformed in 2010. Their first album after the reunion were In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross in 2015. And when listening to that album you just had to ask yourself, How can a band disappear for such a long time make such a strong album after their return. Then it felt that the band snatched it up even further with The Crowning Of The Fire King in 2017. Its a massive album where you can hear influences from Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus and the Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath. This is epic metal with flawless vocals. Fans of doom metal should pick this up
