The German act known as Sospetto have truly upped the creative here on their sophomore effort, Non Bussare Alla Porta Del Diavolo. This second release is much more Horror related music and a conceptual album about the struggle between good and evil or more defined in this case the struggle between 2 witches. The album–whose title roughly translates to Do Not Knock Upon The Door Of The Devil–builds upon the 70s giallo and horror vibe of Sospetto’s 2012 debut by harbouring a more jazz/funk influenced approach to the up-tempo sections, while at the same time creating an otherworldly vibe which aligns perfectly with the band’s obsessive devotion to 1970s Italian thrill-cinema. Subtle strings, break-beak drums and dreamlike, wordless female vocals serve as legitimate links to the cinematic approach of Sospetto, while the slower, more brooding sections are boosted by a warmer, more organic sounding synth tone. This juxtaposition ensures that Non Bussare Alla Porta Del Diavolo retains that cinematic quality which has become the musical calling card for Sospetto thus far, working wonderfully as a soundtrack to some rare or unreleased thriller from Sergio Martino, Umberto Lenzi or Dario Argento. The sound of Sospetto has come into its own here on Diavolo, an album which is fine crafted, confident and ready to consume the minds of soundtrack lovers everywhere.
