Dutch death metal band Soulburn was born from the ashes of one of that country’s oldest proponents of the style, this being the overlooked but prolific Asphyx. Gathering steam in the late ’90s, Soulburn members Wannes Gubbels (vocals/bass), Eric Daniels (guitar), and Bob Bagchus (drums) released only one album the 1998’s ‘Feeding On Angels’ through Century Media. So what can we expect from Soulburn, well just like Asphyx it’s a brand of doomy, basic, reverb-laden death metal but the this album never really takes off. Asphyx seems to keep coming up with memorable and distinctive ideas but for some reason they don’t quite get there on this album. The band went back to the Asphyx moniker for future releases.
