Stockholm based Stabbs moniker apparently stands for Stranger Than Aunt Berthas Breath. The group, formulated in 1995 and fronted by Australian vocalist / guitarist Belinda Kordic, first came to attention with the inclusion of the track Tired on the ’Valkommen Till Festen soundtrack compilation. They would sign to the British Music For Nations concern for their debut full length album As It May Be’ The music could be described as a cross between Sahara Hotnights and The Vines or Nirvana/Hole mixed with Tomahawk on steroids but the big different is the singer Belinda that sounds like the evil witch in Snow White. She growls and screams like she´s in major pain, but somehow it fits the music perfectly. This single features one track from the debut album and two exclusive tracks. The Joke’s On Me from the album is so Hole-ish that Courtney Love could have sung it. The two single only tracks feels completely different. Stabb shun mainstream influences for the sake of sounding more like Sonic Youth, especially on third track How Do You Do, parts of which could have been taken straight from Experimental Jet Set. Stabb´s sound and Belindas voice really differs from a lot of the music coming out today. Belindas rich voice escalates up the vocal scale but then it gets heavy, and we get something similar to death metal roaring. An interesting single.
