Two years on from the release of Status Quo’s first Golden Hour collection, the band was only getting bigger and bigger. Of course their last label wanted a piece of the action — especially when their archive positively groaned with material that had scarcely been noticed, let alone appreciated, when it was first released. For obvious reasons, Golden Hour, Vol. 2: Down The Dustpipe cannot hold a candle to its predecessor in terms of hit material. But an entertaining rush through the albums that accompanied the early singles leaves little room for complaint, regardless — some of the band’s best late-’60s and early-’70s material, after all, never made it out on 45, and probably wouldn’t have sold much if it had. Reprised within one of the most fondly remembered series of the early ’70s, it finally reached the audience it deserved, and Status Quo’s reputation went up yet another notch. This album features material from the four first album and also includes five single only tracks
