This dvd starts with the a much sought after complete pro shot recording from Stevie Ray Vaughans concert at Ocean Center, Daytona Beach, Florida on the 25th of March 1987. This was recorded during the bands Live Alive tour and when MTV recorded this show it was just 5 months into Stevies sobriety (the wild antics of drug dealers and groupies being present backstage were eliminated for this tour after they changed their hospitality rider and Vaughan removed alcohol from his rider). After SRV had come out of the rehab he took his life by the scruff of the neck and really decided to live, act and perform like every day was his last. Every moment was precious…every song could actually be his last. He had cheated death and was going put his heart and soul into everything he did. Consequently, this gig, has Stevie and the boys playing their hearts out! This show also features a handful of songs that I had never seen played on dvd before, namely ‘Lookin’ Out The Window’,’Look At Little Sister’, ‘Superstition’ and ‘Willie The Wimp’. Stevie doesn’t play it safe, there is no ‘Texas Flood’, ‘Mary Had A Little Lamb’ or indeed ‘Pride & Joy’, but what you do get is the most amazing performance of ‘Ain’t Gone N Give Up On Love’ that is done pure ‘Texas Flood’ style. It really has to be seen to believed! As far as i’m concerned, this is up there with ‘Live At The El Mocambo’ show as one of the best ever! The picture quality isn’t the best and theres no DTS sound but the tone and playing is just sublime.

Out next comes material from Stevie Ray Vaughans show at the CBS Records Convention in Honolulu on the 19th of February 1984 where he is joined on stage by Jeff Beck for the encores. Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan toured together in 1989, but this is five years before that, when they met and played together for the first time at this convention for their shared label, CBS Records. In an interview shortly before the 1989 tour, Beck laughing told MTV, “I remember trying to contact Stevie to rehearse and he said ‘Oh, you rehearse do you? What the hell do you wanna rehearse for?’ ” In an excerpt from Stevie Ray Vaughan Day By Day, Night After Night His Final Years, 1983 – 1990, Stevie recalls, “…we rehearsed a couple of times and smoked cigarettes and went crazy and then went and played and just had a blast! [Beck] did this solo in Hawaii that night that was unbelievable. It actually took me watching it on videotape for about a month to really grasp what he played. And whether he’s pulling our leg and he really knows what he’s doing before he does it, I don’t know. It doesn’t really matter. But he finished this solo and got this big grin on his face and stuck his hand in his pocket and stood there for a while like, ‘You can put that one in the bank.’ It was amazing.” The video has been out there for awhile, but even if you’ve seen it before, you can’t see this performance of “Jeff’s Boogie” too many times. And if this is your first time seeing it, your day is about to get better.
