Stryper has been putting out some of their best material in the last three albums, No More Hell To Pay, Fallen, and God Damn Evil. Even The Devil Believes continues this trend with what may be one of their finest albums, both lyrically and musically, in their storied career. It has a little bit of everything that makes them great. There are tracks with the signature Stryper sound and others that branch into new territory, and all but one are hard and aggressive. That one is This I Pray, which is a guitar-driven ballad that makes you think of the days when hair metal bands put on their cowboy hats and boots and for me is one of the top tracks on the album. Other stand-outs include Let Him In, a song that begins with John 3:16, and Do Unto Others. For God And Rock n Roll is the reason why arenas were created. This one would blow the doors off and then tear through the place. It is an anthem. The production quality is top notch, the guitar work is clean, crisp, technical at times, and as good as ever. Some of the guitar solos blew me away and the signature Stryper guitar harmonies never disappoint. There’s a little bit of everything in this album from heavy to melodic to classic metal influenced sounds. It’s obvious the guys are getting along great and enjoyed putting this album together. Whether you’re a long-time Stryper fan, or just someone who loves great hard rock/metal…this album is a must buy!
