Although glam had long slipped off the radar by 1981, that year found Suzi Quatro releasing one of her finest albums, Rock Hard. One of the singles released from this album was Lipstick, a kiss-off to a cheating lover that pits power chords against bubblegum-styled handclaps to create a beguiling fusion of pop hooks and rock n roll muscle. This would be Suzi’s last hit in America, hitting #51. Woman Cry is a soulful slower piece with thunderous drums and spartan musical accompaniment and some Jamaicain rhythm. This is a fine example of late 70s/ early 80s pop rock and an absolute must for anyone with even a passing interest in Suzi Quatro or anyone interested in what female-oriented rock was like before the advent of girl rockers like L7 and Hole.
