Description
Tears were a Swedish glam rock group, formed in 1968 in Katrineholm and consisted of Lars Fubbe Furberg, vocals, Eddie Edda Eriksson guitar and Matti Vuorinen, bass. Drummers, however, varied. Tears were unique in Sweden because they drew inspiration from British and American make-up/glam pop really early on – for example, from David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Sweet. Tears were brave and insisted to sing in English, even though this was considered politically incorrect in the Swedish progressive moment. It is said that it was Lars Furbergs girlfriend at the time, Ewa Kallberg (later Eklund) that were the model for the bands logo. On this second album Thomas Tompa Ericsson performed the drums. Tompa Ericsson had already previously played drums in the group and his sister Gunilla had recently also been the groups organist. With this album the band scored a minor hit with their single God Save The 45 which stayed in the charts for several weeks. However the album is so much for than just this song. This is overall a strong album, just listen to the opening title track Rocky T, which is another highlight. The political progressive movement might have gasped for breath when they saw Tears in their flared jeans and platform boots and maybe the band dreamt of becoming the new Marc Boland, Sweet, Mott The Hoople or even David Bowie. Well they sure never reached those heights but damn if they werent the finest glam rock band Sweden had during the 70s and Rocky T is the album that proves it. After Tears broke up, guitarist Eriksson and vocalist Fogelberg created The Radio while Matti Vuorinen became a politician. Track listing: 1. Rocky T 2. The Prophet 3. Mr Love 4. I Dont Care 5.
