Description

Original press with gatefold cover In the 70s and in a land where political and progressive music was the only way it was one band who dared to be different. A band from Katrineholm chose to wrote and perform music in English which was very political incorrect during these years in Sweden and they didnt wrote political music at all. Instead they dressed in flared jeans and platform boots and took their inspiration from the glam pop movement that was happening in both England and America. Yes this was a band that set out to challenge even the mighty Ziggy Stardust. Tears toured all over the country and were ready to play whatever club there was if it just were equipped with electrical outlets. The core members of the band would be Lars Fubbe Furberg, vocals, Eddie Edda Eriksson guitar, Matti Vuorinen, bass. At the start they had Hans Fogelberg on drums but when things started to move after the first album they would go on and change drummers more than once. The band debuted with a self financed single on Efel records back in 1972 and after that single they signed a deal with Gazell records and a second single was released in 1973. 1974 would be the year when the bands self titled debut album would show up (and two more singles). By this time the band had come up with their nice looking band logo, it is said to have been Lars Furbergs girlfriend at the time, Ewa Kallberg (later Eklund) that stood model for the logo. The debut album showed that the music scene in Sweden didnt had to be dark and depressive and songs didnt had to be about unjustice and pollution. This was fun rock n roll influenced by contemporary greats like Sweet, David Bowie and Mott The Hopple. On the debut album the band even managed to deliver a walloping version of the Del Shannon classic Stranger In Town. When you can make Del Shannon work on an album then you really delivers and that was what this band did. The concept, the style and the music all fitted so well together and for that they deserve their place in Swedish rock music history. After Tears broke up, guitarist Eriksson and vocalist Fogelberg created The Radio while Matti Vuorinen became a politician. Track listing: 1. The Ballot Band 2. Stranger In Town-Del Shannon cover 3.
