Gary Hughes solo album was basically a bunch of well recorded demos but the reaction was so positive that the man went back into the studio to record two more albums, one of ballads and the other with rockers. To create these albums, three former Dare members were brought in: Vinny Burns on guitar, Greg Morgan on drums and Martin Shelly Shelton on bass. It quickly became obvious that something magical was happening, and the decision was quickly made to mix these 2 albums together and form a band. That band was Ten. So, although fans generally consider Name Of The Rose to be heavier than the debut X, all the songs were actually recorded at the same time with the decision about which song went on which album made by the record company and band. Both the debut and Name Of The Rose were massive hits, each selling over 60,000 in Japan alone, where the track Name Of The Rose was voted Song Of The Year in the prestigious Japanese magazine BURRN.
