Description

Terrorizer was born from the ashes of Majesty in 1987, they broke up in early 1988, so the debut album ‘World Downfall’ was recorded posthumously in '89, because Shane Embury (Napalm Death) worshiped old Terrorizer demos so much that he brainwashed the Earache boss. Jesse once remarked in an interview that Oscar had already forgotten half the songs, so they recorded the album with only one guitar. Pete Sandoval was already working on Morbid Angel's Altars of Madness, so Oscar and Jesse went to Morris Sound to record in the same place; then David Vincent ended up filling in on bass because Garvey was in jail. The lp was recorded and mixed in 8 hours. Terrorizer was one of the first bands that producer Scott Burns got to work with, where the sound on this album would later be known as the "death metal production". Because of his work, he later went on as being a well-known death metal producer. This rare and limited vinyl features the early ‘Nightmare’ demo with Terrorizer from 1987 on one side while the second side features another early noise grind demo, namely ‘Shredded Flesh’ with Azagthoth. Azagthoth was a band formed in Chelmsford in England back in 1985. They recorded their first demo the same year called ‘Death Creed’. Their second demo ‘Shredded Flesh’ was released in 1987. Azagthoth were a band featuring Shane Embury (Napalm Death), Wayne Ashton and Pete Giles. Azaghtoth is actually the band the three of them had before they changed name to Unseen Terror. What you hear on this demo is actually a big surprise as it has a sound way ahead of its time. This is death metal of the highest calibre and its more technical and more 'metal' than Unseen Terror and sounds like it really should be from the Usa. However, a closer listen reveals the UK hardcore scene from which this band was spawned. If I had to sum it up I would say it is a cross between Morbid Angel and Heresy (uk). The guitar is heavy and full and the vocals are utterly evil – deep and foreboding. The drumming is exceptional (Embury is a class drummer, and this has to be the same kit he used on Human Error). Overall for its time its really quite extraordinary. Track listing: 1. Terrorizer – Nightmares 2. Terrorizer – Benediction 3. Terrorizer – Mayhem 4. Terrorizer – Terror 5. Terrorizer – Crematorium 6.
