Description

Double album on green and gold haze vinyls with gatefold cover. Limited 400 numbered copies

A melody-driven, AOR/classic rock outfit based out of Helsingborg, Sweden, the Night Flight Orchestra has ties to a wide array of established hard rock bands, including Soilwork, Arch Enemy, Darkane, and Spiritual Beggars, among others. Formed in 2007 by Soilwork’s Björn Strid and David Andersson, the group eventually morphed into a five-piece with the additions of Sharlee D’Angelo, Richard Larsson, and Jonas Källsbäck, all of whom appeared on the band’s 2012 debut, Internal Affairs, released by Coroner Records. They expanded again in 2015 with the arrival of multi-instrumentalist Sebastian Forslund, who marked his debut with the release of the group’s sophomore effort, Skyline Whispers. And the songs on Skyline Whispers could have come from any of the classic Foreigner, Survivor, Journey or Toto albums of the late 70s/early 80s. It is hard to believe that the band members are known mostly for playing in more extreme metal bands. Speed’s vocals are a revelation like a cross between Tony Hadley and Lou Gramm. Most of the songs are up tempo melodic rockers, equal parts melody and muscle. There is even a nod into Toto style prog rock near the end. The musicianship is too notch and the songwriting of a very high quality for this type of music with all the tracks blessed with memorable hooks. My favourite tracks would have to be Living For The Night Time, Stiletto and Road Less Travelled. Were this album made by a US band in that halcyon AOR era, this would be all over the radio and dominating at least the Billboard chart. Great album guys.
