Description

Limited 5 inch single on red vinyl. Limited 100 copies

There aren’t too many bands out there that can say they have been around for a decade, let alone a quarter of a century. For those few that manage to hit the twenty five year mark, some sort of celebration is usually in order. Some might go on a world tour and appeal to their aging fanbase, while others may record an album or release a collection of shelved demo tracks for the diehard followers to eat up. Of course, Therion have never been known to follow in the footsteps of others. Although the operatic symphonic metal style is all-too common in current metal culture, Therion carved out their own niche, unshackling from their death metal roots and taking a more sophisticated and experimental approach to the symphonic style. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that Therion didn’t decide to celebrate things the regular way; instead, they went ahead and did an album of 1960’s French pop song coversm called Les Fleurs Du Mal. It was for sure a head scratcher at first, and while not every fan will get it, Therion’s attention to finesse and detail makes this far more than the average covers album. A special 5 inch vinyl single was released featuring the bonus track on the album Les Sucettes. Les Sucettes was sang by France Gall in the 60s. Its a song with a double meaning, its a story of a young girl called Annie who likes lollipops and she sings shes in heaven when the syrup flows down her throat. Im sure you can figure out the double meaning of that song. At least im sure mastermind and founder Christofer Johnsson did and im also sure they had a great fun recording this track. At least it sounds like it. Its hilarious. This single is backed up by a demo version of Lilith. The final studio version of that track has a great and dark atmosphere. Its a cover by Leonie Lousseau and the mysticism and darkness should please fans of older Therion. Whatever you think of French 60s pop songs, well im sure most of us never have heard any, the real beauty of this disc is the fact that Therion dares to do things different and their inate ability to take the core material and work it into their own style. Thats why this disc is so rewarding
