Jon Mikl Thor is a wonderfully clichéd and over the top heavy metal artist, and an ex body builder and former Mr. Canada and Mr. USA, from Vancouver Canada, This maxi single features two tracks taken from his 1985 masterpiece Only The Strong. Thor might not be the greatest of singers and he might be best when he gets down and dirty and employs some raspy growls. The music doesn’t have the twin axe attack of Iron Maiden nor any epic written songs instead Thor follows quite a common pattern with simple riffs and a monotonous bass line and to be frankly some songs are quite cheesy. So i understand if you dont think this sound that interesting but damn it, i still hail this as a mid 80s masterpiece. The reason is simple; those simple riffs still makes those tracks sound very bombastic and so many of the tracks from the album could have been released as singles like Only The Strong, Knock Em Down, Thunder On The Tundra and Ride Of The Chariots for example. The two tracks on this single is the warrior anthem Let The Blood Run Red and When Gods Collide which probably is the most aggressive song on the album. This is solid traditional heavy metal without big surprises or flaws. Highly recommended for the metal faithful.
