Still sealed cd box set with 4 Thy Primordial albums collected into one must have release

Cd 1: Where Only The Seasons Mark The Paths Of Time 1997
Fast, technical and chaotic black metal act Thy Primordial from Mjolby, Sweden started life as Carcharoth. A name change to Lucifer ensued before a further name switch to Primordial. As Primordial the band debuted with their De Morka Makters Alla demo in 1995. Discovering the Irish act of the same name the Swedes opted finally for Thy Primordial and released their second demo Svart Gryning (Black Dawn). The vinyl single Signs Of Leviathan was released on Paranoia Syndrome in 1996. Thy Primordial inked a deal with American Gothic records and recorded their full length album Under Iskall Trollmane for a 1995 release. However the released was shelved and the band signed to Pulverised label for the Where Only The Seasons Mark The Path Of Time effort. The album was produced by Tommy Tagtgren. Seeing Thy Primoridal making strides on their own Gothic records hastily issued the intended debut Under Iskall Trollmane in 1998. Thy Primordial features Isidor (Mikael Andersson) and L.V. Managarmr (Jonas Albrektsson) from Indungeon. Albrektsson can also be found in Niden Div.87 and Retaliation. The overall sound of Where Only The Seasons Mark The Path Of Time can be compared to that of Emperor or Setherial, although these guys are neither as atmospheric nor as musically inventive. Still, they rip through some great material at a hellish pace, and the album is peppered with passages which I really like (Svart Gryning, in particular, has some great moments). Also, by black metal standards, the playing is very good, the production is pretty solid, and the guitar sound is unusually full. If you get into Emperor-style black metal but get turned off by the rudimentary production typical of many bands, then I think you’d definitely enjoy this album. If, on the other hand, you’re somebody who hankers after ever-weirder black metal variants, then this will probably seem not bad, but more than a bit samey.

Cd 2: The Heresy Of An Age Reason 2000
With surprisingly little time elapsed since the release of their fantastic third album, At the World of Untrodden Wonder, Sweden’s unjustifiably unrecognised Thy Primordial have now, anno 2000, crafted their finest work of retaliation to date. Blasting in true Thy Primordial style, opener Ceased to Decay showcases the bands knack for melding epic melody lines with pure aggression. As a moment of calm deceptively seems to settle in, writhing, serpentine riffs finely woven into a sudden storm of blasting drums and growling bass brutally lash out in venomous, hateful and melodic rushes, laden with spectacular, intense drumming and vocalist Isidor’s harsh, grating and baleful screams. The highly impressive double-pedal pummelling of Morth sets the score right from the start: Thy Primordial are faster and tighter than ever before, launching into attacks of breathtakingly furious, yet disarmingly melodious Swedish mayhem. The rage which animates The Heresey Of An Age Of Reason is truly tangible, and the incredible, bewitching melodic guitar work, at times tinged with the icy fury of early Norwegian black metal, can barely claim to shroud the sheer bestial anger that emanates from this thundering, rabid black metal opus. Comparisons with countrymen Dark Funeral will no doubt be made, but rest assured that Thy Primordials material rises far above the oft monotonous straight-ahead speed of the former. Masterfully tamed musical savagery is indeed what the album perfectly embodies; Thy Primordials fourth full-length exudes aggressive, outstanding musicality, played by five competent and inspired musicians. While one yearns for the stronger melodies of their early work, the sheer power and intensity on this album crushes any uncertainties one might have about this band’s ability, as well as providing a testament to the faultless Sunlight production. In fact, the bands skills for keeping such relentlessly fast material from sounding messy or formulaic has always been remarkable, and the band looks to be honing it to a finer edge with every album. Despite the label’s apparent lack of distribution and advertising, this record is brimming with an expensive production and layout worthy of much bigger labels. At a time of the ever-renewing metal cycle when black metal seems to have slipped into a coma, Thy Primordial have dealt a fourth merciless blow with The Heresy Of An Age Of Reason, and spawned an album which reveals that the chthonic forces lurking in the Swedish scene are certainly as talented and worthy of recognition as the Swedish black metal flame-bearers Marduk and Dawn.

Cd 3: The Crowning Carnage 2002
Swedish black metal act Thy Primordial were formed in Mjolby back in 1994. If you haven’t heard this band then imagines Dark Funeral, but without all the Satanic stuff and the monotonous riffs of ‘Diabolis Interium’. Replacing that, are awesome lyrics and amazing riffs that don’t bore you. The singer’s scream isn’t as high pitched as Ihsahn but is still awesome and really brutal. Drumwork is outstanding and his easily comparable to Trym’s, (ie Emperor’s new drummer). Trem picking dominates this album but riffs vary throughout the album which gives it a refreshing feel. Guitarist uses stacked power chords and major thirds and sixths to give the listener a well deserved departure from the everyday satanic minor and diminished intervals which dominate lots of black metal band’s songs. If you’re sick of other satanic black metal and you want an awesome refreshing new band to check out which is still brutal as hell, then check out ‘The Crowning Carnage’ by Thy Primordial

Cd 4: Pestilence Upon Mankind 2004
The sixth and final album released by this Swedish black metal band. Combining ultra-high speed, vicious black metal, subtle guitar melodies and one of the most over-the-top vocalists around, the band progressed to the point where they truly were the kings of the sub-genre despite their criminally low profile. This isn’t your Christ killing, Satan worshipping black metal here, this is a band that, with every release, showed you can have completely awesome, real black metal without the Satanic overdose. they always stayed part of the greater Swedish black metal crowd, but stood alone with their knack for awesome songwriting and interesting structures. The scene needs bands like this, but too often the really good bands just get drowned out by the flood of bands that there just are, and though they were around for quite awhile, they remain an overlooked masterpiece. Thy Primordial should have rivalled their compatriots like Marduk, Dark Funeral and so on. Unfortunately they didnt.
