Description

By 1996 Mexican act Transmetal had gone from a primitive thrash band in the late 80s to a splendid death metal act with the two latest releases ‘El Infierno De Dante’ and ‘Mexico Barbaro’ both recorded with Scott Burns at Morrisound studios. However after almost ten years together lead vocalist and guitarist Alberto Pimental wanted out again, (he wasn’t singing on the bands third album Zona Muerta in 1991), and he left and forged another version of his old band Leprosy. Transmetal were now looking for both a guitarist and a singer and they took onboard former Luzbel frontman Arturo Huizar but Huizar left in early 1998 before recording anything with the band. In February of 1998 two members of Panic, vocalist Mauricio Torres and guitarist 'Eric Towers' (a.k.a. Ernesto Torres) stabilised the band so they could begin the recording of their seventh studio album. Bass player and main songwriter Lorenzo Partida and also started a hobby project together with vocalist Alejandro Gonzalez who sang on the ‘Zona Muerta’ album. The side project was baptized Ultratumba. The band didn’t returned to Morrisound even if the two previously albums had been a success. The recording were done in November of 1998 and at that time the Scott Burns sound had been squeezed out to the maximum by many death metal bands and it was time to look for something new. Transmetal went to CRC studios in Chicago Illinois to record with Jeff Lane. Their were at the time rumours that the band had split up when Pimentel left. When the recording starts it shows that Mauricio Ernesto Torres is a very good replacement for Pimentel. The new Transmetal release ‘Las Alas Del Emperador’ in the summer of 1999 and their Spanish cover version of Motorheads ‘Orgasmatron’ becomes a hit. One of the first shows for the album takes place at the Adolph Lopez Mateos de Tlalnepantla Arena in Mexico City in July 1999 a show that gets taped and recorded for a double live album, vhs and dvd.
