Transylvania is a one man black metal band from Canada, Val-d’Or, Quebec to be precise. The man behind the project, a one Terry Gosselin brings us two demos in total so far. The first was released in 08′ while the second was released two year later entitled As The Wicked Prosper. A rather interesting demo to say the least for the simple fact that Terry plays a more modernized version of back metal although the production says different. The guitars, despite their horrendous tone, are absolutely fantastic. they churn out melodies that most melodic black metal bands dream of. the compensations are extremely well structured and intricate. Keyboards are utilized such as in “Of Death and Defiance” during the first several minutes as well as clean guitar interludes in “As The Wicked Prosper” and “L’Ennemi (Charles Baudelaire)” but that is really the extent of any second wave elements besides the usual blast beats and trembo riffs. Every song is constructed with care in regard to the music. Not a single riff repeats more than intended and works only in furthering the song as riffs should no matter the type of metal. This is a fantastic little demo and if you can look past the production you will love whats offered here, that is to say if you love more modern black metal. While there are some moments related to the old masters, there will not be much.
