Description
The return of an old Norwegian giant. From the beginning in Oslo’s underground, spreading demos over 15 years ago, few could back then predict what the band and it’s members should mean for the whole Norwegian metal scene in the years to come. Founding members Sverre(vocals/guitar) and Bergli(drums) released two self financed demos which was well sought after in the underground; ‘Samlerens Kammer’ (1994) and 'Midtvintermane’(1995). both raw and filthy old school Norwegian black metal at it’s very best. Tulus was by this time about the reach almost cult status in the Oslo underground, and this was even before releasing a proper album. In 1995 Tulus entered Panser Studios in Oslo and recorded their debut album ‘Pure Black Energy’. The album was recorded live in the studio in a few days, and the title fully reflects the album title; pure black energy. To create the right mood female vocal, cello and violins were used to give some diversity on the album. The album did well in the underground and received excellent reviews, and several journalists saluted the band for being different and original. The album was soon picked up by the local label Hot Records, who released the second full length; Mysterion, in 1998. In 1999 Tulus released ‘Evil 1999’ on Hammerheart Records. By this point Tulus was a well known and respected name in the European black metal scene, and the band received tons of requestsfrom fans wanting to get their hands on the earlier demos and albums. In cooperation with local label FaceFront ‘Cold Core Collection’ was released in 2001, containing all demos and the two first Tulus albums. After this period the band felt that the time was right to do something new and decided to form a new band called Khold. Khold released two albums on Moonfog, one on UK label Candlelight and the last one on Tabu Recordings. Sensa Anima was the name on Sverre and Berglie’s other band, who won the Norwegian Grammy in 2000 in the metal genre in front of Enslaved and Ram-Zet. The last couple of years Sverre and Bergli played with the thought of waking an old giant back to life and releasing a new Tulus CD. The progress writing the new material started 2006 and we went into Panser Studio in November to record ‘Biography Obscene’. Also on this album the band have used strings, horn section, female vocal and piano. ‘Biography Obscene’ is a concept album and will be the first Tulus album with English lyrics.
