The Polish metal band Turbo was created in Poznan in 1980 and they released a very rare vinyl single the first year without any picture sleeve. This single features two tracks that never made onto the first full length album 2 years later. Their debut album ‘Dorosle Dzieci’ was released in 1982, it was followed by ‘Smak Ciszy’ in 1985 and then ‘Kawaleria Szatana’ 1986. Their fourth album ‘Ostatni Wojownik’ is an all around great sounding thrash metal album. This is more technical then their earlier albums. this is probably Turbo’s craziest album, it sounds like they’ve been possessed by the spirits of bands like Watchtower and Destruction and combined it with their earlier Iron Maiden-esque style because this is like nothing they’ve done before, this is pure sadistic thrash. You’re constantly being bombarded by changing drum beats and different emotions of guitar riffs. The whole album is a solid slab of late eighties thrash speed metal, up there with the best ones. Grzegorz Kupczyk does a great job as a thrash vocalist, the guitarists are more than competent dishing out those crazy, sometimes a bit proggy, hooks left, right and center. This was the album that caught the ear of Noise records in Germany that signed the band and got them to re-record the album in English and released it as ‘The Last Warrior’. ‘The Last Warrior’ was produced by Harris John but I would still say I prefer the original Polish version as Kupczyk’s english has its limitation and he delivers a much more solid voice to this version. Turbo has a sound and tracks that easily distinguishable them from the standard pack.
