British punk singer Timothy Smiths (TV Smith), songwriter and lyricist of the legendary Adverts, 2012 EP Dangerous Playground, comprises four songs specially written for the play Der Kalte Kuss Von Warmem Bier (The Cold Kiss Of Warm Beer) by German playwright Dirk Laucke. The play concerned two men – a former East German border guard and a soldier returning from Afghanistan – who escaped from a clinic where they were being treated for alcohol addiction and meet in a run-down rock n roll bar. After trying to defend the bar’s owner from her aggressive boyfriend, the situation spirals into violence as the characters past comes back to haunt them…TV was invited by the director Ingrid Muller-Farney to write four songs for the play, and also to appear in it in specially shot video clips which will be integrated into the story on stage. The songs address and develop the themes in the play. Two of the tracks from the play has been released on this vinyl single; Dangerous Playground is a song for the character Richard, recently returned from duty in Afghanistan. What made him go to war in the first place? Can life ever be the same when he comes home? Can he ever really come home? The Rock N Roll is a song for the broken dreams of unification, embodied in the rock n roll bar run by the character Elaine. Both tracks are released in exclusive versions compared to the play
