Many of the bands that recorded for Combat in the early 1990s favored thrash metal, but a definite exception was Two-Bit Thief, which embraced more conventional hard rock on ‘Another Sad Story In The Big City’. Though the obscure band (whose sound could be described as Aerosmith meets Guns 'N Roses meets Skid Row) isn't terribly original, most of the songs are gritty, catchy and honest. When other hard rockers were singing mostly about women in tight micro-mini dresses, Thief set out to be lyrically substantial and tackled social issues on occasion. ‘Industry’ addresses environmental concerns, while ‘Crime’ takes a look at underage felons. Another high point of this album is a cover of Johnny Cash's ‘Folsom Prison Blues’, which works quite well in a hard rock setting. ‘Another Sad Story’ points to the fact that Thief could have been much better known.
