Part 21 in the NWOBHM singles replica series

Mini cd replica of the legendary NWoBHM EP from Tysondog. It features the same tracks like on the original single. Official reissue authorized by the band in a limited run of 500 copies only.

Something of a refined anomaly (along with the Tygers of Pan Tang) amid Neat’s roughshod stable of heavy metal acts, Wallsend, England’s Tysondog had a lot more in common with New Wave of British Heavy Metal giants like Iron Maiden and Saxon than proto-thrashing label mates such as Raven and Venom. That is at least in terms of sonic direction, because commercial success was to remain ever beyond the reach of their modest songwriting abilities, and, ultimately, surely contributed to their very short and unfulfilling career. By the end of the 1980s, you’d be hard-pressed to find many heavy metal fans who were even aware of Tysondog’s existence. Their 1985 Shoot to Kill EP features four tracks, Hammerhead from their debut album, Beware Of The Dog, from 1984 as well as 3 previously unreleased tracks. By this time the band is still moulded in the NWOBHM style, but speed metal and proto-thrash continue further seeping into their sound. While this EP is enjoyable enough, it isn’t entirely necessary. I wouldn’t be surprised if these three tracks were originally meant for the debut full length, but in the end didn’t make the cut. As should be expected, the shred solos are pretty nuts. They are plentiful and enjoyable through and through. The best track here is Hammerhead but if you have the debut album you already have this. Its an absolutely fantastic song. Definitely having some Maiden influence, it’s thoroughly catchy and the riffs are instantly classic. Still doesn’t it excusing it to released once again when it has no reason though.

Track listing:
1. Shoot To Kill
2. Changeling
3. Hammerhead
4. Back To The Bullet
