Until Death Overtakes Me is a solo project, the work of multi-instrumentalist Stijn Cauter. No, this is not another black metal act, even if the cover art might mislead you into thinking that way. This is ambient funeral doom and the album Days Without Hope clocks in at 74 minutes and includes just six compositions. To get directly to the point, this release is pretty much what its title implies: hopeless and depressive. Long-lasting tracks and in typical funeral doom mood, slow in tempos, many including long musical breaks. In fact, this album can almost be considered as an instrumental work. The vocals are discreet growls that bear a certain ghostly feel in some instances. They are more of a spoken, but undecipherable, nature. Lots of ambient and orchestral keyboards can be heard on this album. Distorted leads and crushing riffs form the basic metal elements. The overall feel of this music is melancholic, depressive, haunting and ambient, all of which done while maintaining a melodic level at all times.
