Vader has an exhaustive catalogue of solid death metal releases , with some being near masterpieces such as De Profundis, Litany, Welcome To The Morbid Reich and the very strong Impressions In Blood album. When I bought their album The Ultimate Incantation back in 1992 , I thought they were a strong band but they were resigned to the shadows of the giants like Deicide and Morbid Angel. Fast forward nearly a quarter century later, and the tables have turned This band simply s***s all over the recent releases of the aforementioned bands. Vader has never shied away from showcasing their Slayer and Morbid Angel influences, but I guess impression is the greatest form of flattery. Tibi Et Igni is one of their best produced, skull-crushing releases yet. Any metal fan should find something to savour here: thrashy riffs, divebomb solos, double bass pummeling and lion-esque vocals. The only misstep I found would be how the albums ends with the slow burner song The End; it is more mid-paced and bogs down the onward momentum of the rest of the album. Aside from this minor flaw, all of the songs rip it up in styles akin to Deicide, Morbid Angel, Slayer, Kreator and Malevolent Creation. Peter’s voice is in top form and his mystique-ridden lyrics are far more interesting than anything Glen Benton burps out these days. This album undoubtedly stacks up against the best ones in Vader’s discography. It may not be as innovative or bloodthirsty as some of the older albums, but it is their most versatile and cohesive. The songs have their own identity and don’t bleed together into one blur. Standouts include Go To Hell, Where Angels Weep, The Eye Of The Abyss, and The Light Reaper. A full on bulldozer of a death metal album that will hopefully propel Vader into the upper hierarchy of bands. Morbid Angel should be ashamed of themselves .. and this should serve as a wake-up call to bands like Deicide who have become lazy and uninspired
