Brats was the first band to feature the mighty guitar duo of Hank Shermann and Michael Denner, who would later become part of the legendary Mercyful Fate in the early 80’s. This band started out in 1978 as a straight punk band, then broke up and reformed with a quite different line-up (only Shermann remained from the original group) and a modified musical direction. They recorded one album in 1980, then promptly broke up, as the album didn’t fare well and CBS terminated their contract. The album was clearly influenced by hard and heavy metal, when the punk era was on it’s last years but it has nothing in common with MF and is only occasionally metallic, as it’s really more of a loose, punky hard rock album. The album was released in late April and like most die hard collectors knows a very rare promotional split vinyl single was released with the Dutch band Tyrantz on the B-side in the summer of 1980. Some copies of the single came free with the compilation album Rock 80. What most people dont know is that this mega rare Danish promotional cassette was sent out to all Danish radio stations and music magazines in March of 1980 a month before the album was released. It features the Bratz and the Tyrantz track together with 16 other artists that were released at the same time.
