Ever since Carl Albert passed away, it seems as though Geoff Thorpe is reluctant to move on, to something different. I suppose I could hardly blame him since Vicious Rumors is basically his baby. The last album to feature Mr. Albert was Word Of Mouth, which was a great album with alot of memorable songs throughout. The next three featured a different vocalist on each one…and on Somethings Burning…the predecessor to this album, even Geoff Thorpe took a noble shot at assuming vocal duties. Cyberchrist is the bands seventh album and it continues the experimentation with the groove metal sound that they started on previous album, Something Burning. It is the final album to feature bassist Tommy Sisco, drummer Larry Howe and guitarist Steve Smyth. It is also the only album to feature lead singer Brian O’Connor. This might also be their heaviest album as it has a very downtuned guitar sound and a dark atmospheric vibe to each song. This is not the US power metal band it was in the beginning (a sound they would go back to on later album) but its such an interesting album. Brian O’Connor have some powerful pipes and as I said Geoff has written his heaviest most aggressive songs to date for this one. Listen to the title track, Cyberchrist is an exquisite work of excellence and everything about that song right down to the lyrics festers with genius.
