Walpurgis Night from Italy started in 2009 and they released their debut in 2011. Nearly a year after they returned with their sophomore release, Midnight Wanderer. These Italians are into the traditional 80s era. Being influenced by NWOBHM, and from Heavy, Epic and Power metal styles of the 80s, they seem to have a special love for this specific period. Their looks resemble the bands of that time and the production, which is lively and raw, has a 80s underground approach. There are here and there nice ideas in their songs. Opener Immortals is compositionally example, not wrong, but it takes just as most of the songs too long. Only the ambitious twelve-minute four-part film Stories From An Astral Journey justifies its length through the many tempo changes and different characters / voices that appear in the story. It feels like the band is still trying to find their way and they have already taken several steps ahead since their debut. Their third work will be like a barometer for the band’s future though. Those who are fond of traditional 80s metal music will find some nice features here.
