The German trio Warhammer formed with a very specific aim in mind: to pay tribute to the long-defunct Swiss metal band Hellhammer (the precursor to the better-known and longer-lived Celtic Frost) by faithfully replicating their primitive doom/death metal sound, their album artwork aesthetic, and so forth. Their third album ‘The Doom Messiah’ proved that the group were worthy of reanimating the ancient deathnoize style while some critics didnt see a point in bringing back the vile Hellhammer. However fans were certain Warhammer was the next big thing on the contemporary metal scene, bringing a true blast from the past that swept away all posers and metal-wannabes. The group promoted their third album with a handful of shows alongside such bands as Pentacle, Goddess of Desire, Desaster, Primordial, Dimmu Borgir and Immortal. The metal scene phenomenon known as Warhammer continues to bring pure hatred and destruction with a style that never gets old. 2008 re-issue in digipack and 24-bit remastered on golden disc limited to 2000 numbered copies with 3 bonus tracks from the ‘Apocalypse Unleashed’ EP Track listing: 1.
